This phrase, often attributed to Stalin (who is similarly guilty of genocide), encompasses how difficult it can be for people to connect with individual stories of Holocaust victims and survivors, especially when they hear huge numbers like six million. If you then add in all of the non-Jews who were also killed, the number becomes even more unfathomable.
The goal of this podcast is to connect to the individuals who endured the Holocaust. Through listening to single stories, we can begin to understand that at the root of it, the millions who were murdered were people with complex lives and stories, just like ourselves. We can then begin to wrap our minds around the statistic. Six million may not be a number humans can conceptualize easily. But we can begin to see the huge number for what it is: millions of individuals.
We also hope that this podcast can be a way to amplify stories of individuals who may wish to share their story as widely as possible, but can no longer travel due to age.
